The higher the better

The adventure park belonging to The Outsider is within walking distance of the town centre, close to the Schotte sports complex. From the street, you can immediately spot the Blue Diamond rope course. Rope bridges, obstacles and a spider's web await you. No better way to feel like the real Spiderman.

If you still have some superpowers left afterwards, you can reach for the skies up the factory chimney. The giant chimney stands tall. Eight challenging climbing routes of up to fifteen metres high provide a perfect challenge for beginners right through to experienced climbers.

The giant chimney on the domain is a reminder of Aalst's rich textile history. Until the mid 1990s, this place was the site of Schotte tannery, where cattle skins where transformed into leather. In 2013, redevelopment work began, transforming the site into a modern sports paradise.

Scots in Schotte

A site called ‘Schotte’ wouldn't be complete without the Highland Games, of course. We travel back in time and space to the Scottish Highlands. Various clans compete in a battle of strength and skill. Participants dress up in a stylish kilt and battle for the honour of the clan. Get ready for a game of stilt walking, tug-of-war and caber tossing. Ambiance and fun for sure!

Soldier games

Once your kilt is back in the dressing up box, it is time to put on your fighting outfit. Not that you suddenly get a military outfit, but a weapon does come in handy in the next two activities. Laserbattle is a super exciting battle, full of fun and adrenalin. Armed with  cool infrared weapons you try to defeat the enemy in each mission. However hard you try, you can't resist... Teamwork, discussion and communication are quickly essential for survival. You play various missions in which everyone can deploy their tactical insight to the full. Can your team accomplish all the missions ahead?

No high-tech infrared weapon for the second game Arrow Tag. Instead, it's back to the good old bow and arrow. In a tactical duel you compete and try and score as many points as possible. Bow and arrow dangerous? Not at all, as the arrows have a soft tip, so that fun comes first at all times.

Joining us at the Dender?

Battling not your thing and prefer something more gentle? Then kayaking on the Dender will be just the job for you. For many people, the Dender is still a great mystery, but once you've been on the river you'll remember it here for a long time to come. Rent a kayak from The Outsider and enjoy the lush green world. Relaxation as you train those arm muscles, if that's not a perfect combination for an unforgettable afternoon. More interested in a longer trip? With a whole of weekend of canoeing you can immerse yourself in these idyllic surroundings as you paddle. For example, with a trip from Lessines or Gramont (Geraardsbergen) to Aalst. An original activity for an excursion with friends or family.

Town rally: Aalst onions and 'voile jeanetten'

If you'd rather not be surrounded by water, you can always opt for the town rally in Aalst. Head into town and find your way through Aalst. Gradually you discover all there is to know about this carnival town. In groups you find the many tasks along the way. Including dressing up as 'dirty Janet', of course. Step by step you can solve the mysteries, riddles and puzzles. And who knows, you might be the day's winner? Giving you to honour of calling yourself a true Aalst onion.
